panasonic vhs dvd recorder
copying vhs to dvd, why do only some want to copy??

i am in the process of trying to copy all my old vcr/vhs tapes on to dvd's, have tried to copy about 50 so far and only 30 will copy. have tried different disks and also tried covering the back of the vhs with sticky tape. the unit i am using is a PANASONIC DMR-EZ45V. It's combination dvd and vcr player/recorder and is only a couple months old.
ANY IDEAS??
