High Definition Recording Question?
I have a Sony Bravia 40in LCD High Def TV, PS3 and a Macbook.
I want to get rid of my VCR
Is it possible to record HD TV onto my laptop hdd and or burn 'live' to DVD...
The same function of a DVD recorder
I am aware you can purchase the USB TV tuners, though i'm not really interested in them unless they're ridiculously cheap?

USB Tuners have bandwidth limitations which when HDTV is trying to get through could be horrid. I use hauppauge PCI hardware encoder cards in a PC they use hardware to encode which is not bad on the cpu. If you can find a hardware encoding usb tuner then you may be ok as far as recording but last time I checked PLEXTOR was the only usb hardware encoding tv tuner and burning a live disk is likely not worth the trouble. record to laptop then burn to dvd...check files first to make sure they are good...hdtv would have to be compressed or you'll get like 15-30 minutes per normal DVD...check plextor site for info on data rates & video quality.
